Meta is testing a new interface for the Threads app, similar to the previous TweetDeck interface (TweetDeck is a third-party application that helps manage multiple Twitter accounts at the same time). This new interface will allow Threads users to create custom, column-stacked boards on the web.
Users can choose to maintain a single table or add separate columns for their favorite searches, tags, accounts, saved posts, and notifications. Specific columns can be selected to automatically update in real time.
This new interface may be intended to address Threads users’ complaints about being algorithmically forced to view the “For You” message board every time they visit Threads on the web. Threads now has a real-time “Following” feed, but users must save a site bookmark or switch each time Threads loads. The same thing happens on mobile apps, as Meta has hidden the “Following” feed below the main Threads logo icon.
TweetDeck used to be a popular third-party app for accessing Twitter before Twitter acquired it in 2011. Features like multiple account support and custom feeds make it a favorite among power users, journalists, and marketers who use Twitter on a daily basis. Currently, users have to pay to access the renamed version X Pro.
Along with the new TweetDeck-like UI on Threads, Meta is also launching a tab that displays search results in chronological order on the service. “Search results here are still rated for quality, but now you can view them chronologically,” said Instagram Director Adam Mosseri.
