Jeep has just launched the first fully electric SUV for the North American market in New York. Although the main focus is on the $71,995 Wagoneer S, the automaker also introduced a concept version: the Wagoneer S Trailhawk, aimed at off-road capabilities, featuring 31.5-inch tires.

Compared to the standard Wagoneer S, the Trailhawk has a cool green color and has many aggressive details such as laser-cut roof racks, 3D printed tow hooks, enhanced suspension, wheel covers and other accessories for those who off-road enthusiast.

Trailhawk is often the name for the most powerful off-road Jeep models, equipped with more durable materials and equipment. They often pass tests on mobility, flexibility and ground clearance to meet off-road standards. With the Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept, Jeep shows its ambition to expand off-road capabilities to its new electric vehicle segment.

The Trailhawk concept inherits many features of the Wagoneer S but is upgraded. Besides 31.5-inch off-road tires, the vehicle also has an enhanced suspension system for better ground clearance. Front and rear tow hooks and functional ventilation holes are suitable for harsh terrain. The decal on the hood is anti-glare, the car logo fits neatly on the body of the car and the two-panel panoramic sunroof helps catch the wind or… road dust.

Compared to the 5 driving modes of the Wagoneer S, the Trailhawk concept has a sixth mode: Rock (Rocky terrain). The red mode selector knob stands out on the center console, making it easy to operate. The octagonal steering wheel with special grip positions at 3 and 9 o’clock helps the driver handle difficult situations.

Off-road electric vehicles are not a new thing. Ford, Chevy, GMC and Rivian all advertise the gravel-road performance of electric pickup trucks. The annual King of the Hammers off-road race also has a category dedicated to electric mountain vehicles. However, Jeep is a brand famous for its powerful off-road vehicles, so launching a plug-in version is understandable.

Although Jeep has not officially confirmed putting the Trailhawk concept into production, executives at the event hinted that the off-road vehicle will soon become a true electric vehicle. Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa said the Wagoneer S will have many versions, of which the Launch Edition with the most advanced equipment will launch first.
