In January, when Apple updated iOS 17.3, it brought a number of patches and new features to your iPhone, including the long-awaited collaborative playlist feature in Apple Music. Besides, this technology giant also equips the iPhone with a new security feature called Stolen Device Protection , aimed at protecting your data if the phone is stolen or falls into the wrong hands.
According to Apple, Stolen Device Protection can help protect your account and personal information in case your iPhone is stolen. This is an optional feature, but Apple recommends that everyone turn it on.
How to enable stolen device protection and what to know about this new security feature.
After updating your iPhone, your phone may ask if you want to turn on Stolen Device Protection. If you don’t see this screen or plan to enable the feature later, here’s how to enable this security feature.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode depending on your iPhone).
- Scroll down the menu until you see Stolen Device Protection.
If you have enabled this feature, it will show On next to Lost device protection. If Off appears, tap Turn On Protection below Lost Device Protection.
Although Stolen Device Protection only protects certain settings, you still need to take steps to protect your other information. For example, Apple notes that you can still use your iPhone passcode to make purchases with Apple Pay, so Lost Device Protection won’t completely protect your finances. Although Lost Device Protection is optional and doesn’t protect everything on your phone, Apple recommends that everyone turn it on.
