Google is about to give schools access to artificial intelligence (AI) called Gemini, but note that it is only for teachers and students over 18 years old. Google commits not to use user data for AI training or share it with anyone.
A special feature is that Gemini access on Workspace for Education accounts will be integrated with free data security features. However, this also means that users will use the older version Gemini 1.0 Pro instead of newer versions like 1.5 Pro or Flash, which are designed to provide more accurate answers. .
The Gemini program for Google Workspace will officially launch on May 23 with two service plans. The first plan is Gemini Education, which costs less and comes with monthly usage limits. The second plan is Education Premium, which provides full access to AI tools in Workspace, including AI meeting notes/summaries and data loss prevention.
The good news for Chromebook users (a type of laptop popular in education) is that more accessibility features are coming soon for people who are blind or have low vision. Over the next few months, the screen magnifier on Chromebooks will have the ability to read along text as you read it out loud combined with the Select to Speak feature. In addition, users can also customize the mouse cursor to be larger and turn off the cursor’s flashing function.
