Foursquare, the location-based company once famous for its “check-in” feature on iPhones, laid off 105 employees on Thursday. This is part of their efforts to “tie up” operations and “put the company on a more sustainable financial footing”.
Affected employees will no longer have access to the system. CEO Gary Little has not commented further on the company’s future plans.
About 25% of Foursquare’s employees were affected by this wave. According to the internal letter, departments facing layoffs include Visits, OCF and Foursquare City Guide. In addition, the company also paused a number of other projects.
Foursquare was an early iPhone favorite, allowing users to “check-in” to get badges at locations. Then, they turned their attention to providing location data for businesses.
This is not the first time Foursquare has cut staff. The company already did this at the time of its merger with Factual (in 2020) and there is information about another round in 2022.
