Aqara has just launched the Wall Outlet H2 smart socket for 39.99 Euro. This product can directly replace the standard 16A socket used in Europe, and also has the ability to monitor the real-time energy of plugged-in devices.
For example, you can automatically activate night mode (turn on motion sensors, lock doors, close curtains, and turn off lights) when your phone starts charging overnight, just need socket H2 to notice power usage exceed 10W. Or, the outlet can automatically turn off the washing machine and send you a notification when the wash cycle is complete – so you don’t have to listen to the annoying buzzer.
The Wall Outlet H2 uses a Zigbee 3.0 connection, unlike Eve’s smart outlet that uses Thread, but can still work in a Matter system if you have a compatible Aqara controller like the new M3. Even without Matter, the Aqara controller is guaranteed to be compatible with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant and other smart home solutions.
H2 can automatically disconnect the power supply when it exceeds the set threshold, maximum 3840W. It can also automatically power off when the voltage falls below a preset level of 0W to 2W for more than 30 minutes – this feature helps improve charging safety and longevity of some battery types. The socket is designed to fit standard 55mm socket covers, single or multi socket. The LED lights on the device can be customized to show active status or turn off completely.
Aqara’s energy management approach is similar to Ikea’s recently announced Energy Insights feature and Inspelning energy monitoring smart outlet. For now, Aqara’s solutions remain proprietary, but hopefully they will be compatible with Matter’s new energy monitoring features in the future. Smartly controlling a home’s energy consumption not only makes the home smarter, but also reduces energy use and saves money.
The Aqara Wall Outlet H2 is priced at 39.99 Euros (about 43 USD) and will be available starting May 30 in select European countries.
