Fujifilm just launched two new cameras at the X Summit Sydney event. One is the GFX100S II medium format camera, and the other is the X-T50 camera, the successor to the X-T30 II but not completely replacing the old model.

The X-T50 is a combination of old and new technology from Fujifilm. What’s new, the camera body has a rounded design, unique in the X-Series line. The most prominent is the film simulation rotation that first appeared on Fujifilm cameras. This dial has built-in color film simulation modes and 3 custom positions but does not allow setting individual film simulation recipes.

The X-T50 uses the same 40-megapixel sensor as the X-T5 and X-H2, accompanied by a 5th generation processor, providing high-resolution photography and significantly better autofocus than the X- T30 II. The device also has 7-stop body image stabilization, a big difference compared to the X-T30 II, which completely lacks this feature. Continuous shooting is limited to 8 fps with the mechanical shutter, while the X-T5 and X-H2 both hit 15 fps. The device only has one UHS-II SD memory card slot. Video recording capabilities have also been significantly improved.

However, the X-T50 still uses some old components. The included battery is an old type with shorter shooting time. The electronic screen is no different from the X-T30 II. The 3-inch, 1.84-million-pixel bi-directional rear LCD screen is the same as on the X-T5.

The X-T50 has a body price of $1,399.99, $500 more expensive than the X-T30 II. Fujifilm positions the X-T50 as a separate product rather than a replacement. Other cameras in the same product line include:

  • X-H2S: $2,499
  • X-H2: $1,999
  • X-T5: $1,699
  • X-100V (fixed lens): 1,599 USD
  • X-T50: $1,399
  • X-S20: $1,299
  • X-T30 II: $899

Upgrades to the X-T5 include weather resistance, a better electronic screen, dual memory card slots, faster continuous photography and a higher capacity battery.

Fujifilm also introduced a new, lighter, weather-sealed 16-50mm f/2.8 – 4.8 kit lens to replace the old 18-55mm lens. This new lens is said to be more suitable for the 40MP sensor and has a more compact design. The separate price of the new lens is 699 USD, the price of the X-T50 set with lens is 1,799.99 USD.

The X-T50 will be available in June in 3 colors: black, dark gray and silver. Fujifilm is hoping that users who are waiting for the out-of-stock X100VI will switch to the X-T50.
